Photoshop isn’t the killer app that it used to be. Photoshop is often just used for final touch ups. We’ve all switched to the RAW format, so we use RAW photo editors most of the time. This is the same for many other professionals. I spend about 90% of my time in Lightroom and only 10% in Photoshop. Across the internet, forum users are ridiculed for even suggesting that someone try to replace Photoshop with GIMP.īut times have changed. Users often claim that Photoshop is absolutely essential to their workflow. This wasn’t the impossible task that most people believe it is. It's up to us users to help Krita getting better.Over six months ago, I stopped using Adobe Photoshop and switched to GIMP for all my personal photography projects.
KRITA VS PHOTOSHOP 2016 WINDOWS
If you want Krita work well on Windows, keep testing Windows builds then go and submit bug reports, and follow up when devs ask your help in testing.
KRITA VS PHOTOSHOP 2016 MAC
One thing that makes development of the other platforms harder is that the vast majority of the developers and users - as well as the Open Source community in general - are Linux users, so there are few people able to test it on Windows, and even fewer on Mac - and most of those people never take the effort to actually submit feedback. Some time ago Krita was completely useless and broken on Windows, and Mac version didn't even exist as such, so it's a big improvement already that there is a more or less working Windows version and the Mac version is already being tested by some people. They constantly work on fixing everything on all three paltforms. The Linux version usually works pretty well, and issues are easy to fix, while the Windows version tends to be half broken and requires lots of fixing, and the Mac version being broken badly. Krita is built on the Qt framework (Used by Nokia, NASA, Tesla cars and others) which is Cross Platform.Īs development gues on Krita is constantly compiled for and tested on both Linux, Windows and Mac.

It is intended to be Cross Platform, just, to put it bluntly, Windows is much shittier to work with, and it's much harder to make things work correctly on Windows than on Linux. With grungy brushes and the like Precision of 1 is fine) (One value in particular you want to watch out for is Precision, found at the bottom of the settings panel under General / Brush tip - with most brushes you don't need 5, 2-3 usually works well and makes it MUCH faster. Just by tweaking one or two values you can turn a super sluggish and laggy brush into one smooth as a baby's ass, if you know what settings to tweak.

KRITA VS PHOTOSHOP 2016 PLUS
Since version 3.0 they have rewritten many things from scratch, it's MUCH faster than 2.x ever was, plus it has seen the addition of the "LOD" system, ("View -> Instant Preview Mode" or press "Shit + L") which makes it much more responsive when painting with a large brush, zoomed out on a large canvas.Īlso, one great factor of lag for new users is brush presets - many of the default presets Krita ships with are badly optimized. So, if you have a weak processor and a strong VGA card, Krita will still struggle while programs that rely mainly on the VGA may run smooth.īut constant efforts are made to make it faster and more responsive. One part of the problem is that Krita depends heavily on the processor. Resource management is right now the main weakness of Krita. Now let's clean up some misunderstandings here. It can smudge, blend and paint at once, and each property has its own settings and unique curves to pressure, tilt, rotation or a bunch of other sensors/variables. My favorite is the "Color Smudge" engine which is like PS' Smudge Tool and Brush Tool merged into one - and more than that.

Krita has sixteen brush engines, each with its unique set of settings. For example, PS has one brush engine with lots of settings. In my personal opinion, for digital painting specifically, Krita is better than PS, and definitely not "light".Īctually, Krita can do lots of things Photoshop can't, and focuses more on painting related tools than PS. While PS tries to be good at everything at once, Krita focuses on only a few things and tries to excel at those. The most important to note is this: Krita is a dedicated art program - unlike Photoshop, which is a general graphics editor. I just held a little presentation on Krita at a convention in August. I'm also in more or less constant contact with the developers and community, sometimes giving feedback, reporting bugs and making suggestions. I'm using Krita exclusively for all my art needs for about 2 years now. And I was about to make a topic on Krita myself.
